Rose Krasnow, Democrat, Officially Announces Candidacy for County Executive

Former Rockville Mayor and current Planning Department Deputy Director wants to focus on smart growth, inclusive County policies and increasing economic competitiveness

It’s Official — Rose Krasnow is a candidate for Montgomery County Executive. Krasnow, a resident of Rockville for 37 years, would be the first woman to hold the top County spot since the position was created five decades ago.

Rose’s executive experience, vast knowledge of county government, and non-profit leadership set her apart on the local political scene. Known as a straight shooter, Rose has spent her lifetime confronting issues directly and clearly.

As Mayor of Rockville, serving from 1995 to 2001, Rose initiated the redevelopment of the award-winning and popular Rockville Town Square and created Rockville Economic Development Inc. As Deputy Director of the Montgomery County Planning Department (M-NCPPC), Rose oversaw the zoning ordinance rewrite and the recently approved Subdivision Staging Policy, both of which will guide growth and development in the county in the years ahead.

As Executive, Rose will bring a laser focus on economic competitiveness, and will work to ensure that the County’s transportation and school infrastructure keeps up with growth.

“Our county is a leader in so many ways, but it is not enough.  The recent term limit vote was a cry for a new voice. Given the changes in our demographics, we must chart a course that will benefit an ever more diverse population. We need to strengthen our tax base by adopting more business-friendly policies, and be prepared to respond to rapidly changing technologies.  It is time to move on to a more creative approach to leadership,” said Krasnow.

Rose earned a Masters Degree in Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a Bachelor’s Degree, Summa Cum Laude, in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis. Krasnow and her husband Steve have lived in Rockville for 37 years. They have two adult children.

Attend the official launch party of Rose for County Executive in Rockville on December 10th.  Details to be announced soon.
